Introduction: Just as you can be a different person to different people (sibling, child, cousin, student, friend, etc), you can be deliberate about developing different areas of your web presence. Even at your age, it is important to begin thinking about creating a more formal or “professional” web presence. You will have the option to one of three options to create your web presence. Are you prepared to create yours?
For this activity, you will be creating an electronic portfolio using Google Sites. With this portfolio you will be posting all work that you complete in my class. Not only will this be a useful tool in my class, but I am hoping that you continue to utilize your electronic portfolio throughout the remainder of your middle school career and beyond. Objective: STWBAT create a web based, electronic portfolio (website) using Google Sites.
I can create a web based website using Google Sites.
Directions: 1. Log into your Gmail account
2. On the top, right side of the page, click on the Google Applications icon (as shown in the image below).
3. Once you click on the Google App's icon, select Sites.
4. Click on Create New Site
6. Select Blank Template and then follow the directions below:
a. Nameyour Site: Please give this site your first name and the word Portfolio. Do not ever share your last name on anything that you post online. Your username should never include your first AND last name. Abetter choice is your first name followed by your last initial.
b·Your site will be located at this URL: You may have to add the last up to 6 digits of your student number to the URL for your website to work.
c·Choose a Theme: Click on the + sign in front of Choose a Theme. You will then explore all of the theme designs and choose one that best fits your personality.
d·SkipMore Options
c.Type inthe code that is shown and then click Create Site (Please be patient, it may take some time for your website to load)
Once Your Site Loads:
Editing Your Sidebar·On the top right side of the screen, select More ·Select Edit Site Layout ·On the left side of the screen, hold your cursor over Sidebar ·Click on Navigation ·You will then be taken to the Configure Navigation Screen ·Change the title name to My LinksANDclick on the box in front of Display Title
·Click Add URL and type in the Text To Display box: Symbaloo & in the URL or Email box: www.symbaloo.com ·Check the box in front of Open Link in New Window ·Click Ok ·The first page will be your home page. In the top right corner you are going to choose Edit Page. Your page will then change to a page that is similar to a Microsoft Word Document. We call this WYSIWYG (What you see in what you get) in Web 2.0 terminology.

On this page, please do the following: ·Type: Welcome to My Electronic Portfolioon the top of your Home page
·Change the font, color, size and style of the title Welcome to My Electronic Portfolio and click Save.
·Click on Insert and locate your Tagul Image to be inserted onto your homepage. Make sure you use the image toolbar to center your Tagul image.
Inserting Your Tagul onto Your Electronic Portfolio
Once in your site, select Edit (the pencil in the top right corner)
Click at the end of the words Welcome to My Portfolio and press Enter so that the mouse cursor is underneath the typing.
Click on Insert on the top (left) of the page
Select Image
Click on Browse and locate your Tagul image
Click Open and then when your picture loads select, OK
Your Tagul image should now be inserted onto your webpage.
Center (C) and adjust the size of your image so that it is large (L)
Click Save at the top of your page (If it says Unable to Save Changes- Ignore that. It will still save your changes.
How You Will Be Graded: You will receive 5 points for having each of the following done correctly and 0 points for each item that is missing or not done correctly.
